Patti Bursten Deutsch, President

As President of Organic Concepts, Patti directs the company in creating and implementing effective strategies for organic program success based on nearly 20 years of experience in the organic food industry.

Considered an audit expert within the organic industry, Patti's expertise stems from her extensive experience as an organic inspector and technical reviewer for several of the leading organic certifiers, and as an independent consultant for organic compliance.  In her role as a consultant, Patti enjoys helping clients gain deeper understanding of the organic regulations and navigate through the often confusing text, to develop or improve their Organic Systems Plans and overall program.

Patti brings a practical, real world understanding to her work. She is well-versed in the operational aspects of organic farming, having entered the profession as a field and marketing manager for certified organic farms specializing in herbs and mixed vegetables.  

Patti's involvement in organics began in the 1980's when she studied organic farming at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. She went on to acquire organic inspector training and professional experience in a wide variety of operations including farms, livestock, fiber, aquaculture, retail and processing. In addition, Patti has been trained in Field Crop Scouting, Integrated Pest Management, Food Plant Sanitation and Hygiene, HACCP and as an ISO Lead Auditor.

Patti is active in the industry and has served on several committees for the International Organic Inspectors Association and is a trainer for the IOIA courses. To help clients stay apprised of potential new regulatory developments, Patti regularly attends National Organic Standards Board meetings and other industry events.
